Pharmacology

Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem wrote in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy about Moses.

"As far Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned, it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don't believe, or a legend, which I don't believe either, or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics," Shanon told Israeli public radio on Tuesday.

Hey, let's not forget all those other hallucinations - how Pharoah's son died, along with all the firstborn of the Egyptians AND their cattle. And the water turning to blood. And the plagues of flies and frogs pestering everybody. The darkness everywhere in Egypt EXCEPT where the Hebrews lived.

Then that weird nightmare where the entire Egyptian army drowned.

And in the wilderness journey, there was all that manna on the ground every day. The ground opening up under Korah and his rebels. The pillar of cloud by day and the fire by night.

What a trip, man! And that must be some great weed! I haven't even touched it and I'm starting to laugh uncontrollably.

In addition, the critical issue is that many people will believe this non-sense including some Christians. For example, the other day, a fellow Episcopalian approached me and said, “The Old Testament is a bunch of fables and myths. I do not believe the Old Testament is relevant to our beliefs today. Also, the only part of the Bible that I can trust and believe is the four Gospels…and sometimes, I’m not too sure about them. As you know, the Bible was written by mere men.”
He is right about one thing. The Bible was written by mere men; however, they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the inspired (God-Breathed) Word of God. The Holy Spirit was involved with every Scripture. Some people want to pick and choose certain Scriptures in the Bible…and disregard others. My belief is: We either accept the entire Bible as the Word of God or we don’t. Can a person go to Heaven only believing in the Gospel of St. John or one of the other Gospels? Absolutely…as long as they believe and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and accept Him as the only Way to Heaven.
